Freshman Incept: New Student Orientation
Freshmen can pick from three different Incept formats or schedules. Each Incept format covers the same orientation information, but each has a different structure. Students who attend a One Day will have to schedule all placement exams before their Incept day. Freshmen are required to stay at Incept for the entire day and allowances cannot be made for students to leave early.
One Day Incept: This Incept is a full day of orientation activities designed specifically for freshmen. Only freshmen students and their guests will attend this orientation. Check-in for One Day freshmen conferences is 7–7:55 a.m. in the Student Recreation Center (101 Piedmont Avenue). The conference will last until 5 p.m.
Overnight Incept: This option for freshmen has an overnight component added to the format of a One Day conference, allowing you to get a more in-depth look at campus life. Additionally, you will take the Math and Chemistry placement exams during the morning of the first day. You will stay in University Commons, the University’s modern student housing complex, along with many of your future classmates. Check-in for the overnight Incept is from 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m. on the first day in the University Commons Lobby (141 Piedmont Avenue). The conference will last until 4 p.m. of day two.
Freshmen/Transfer Combination: This is a full day of orientation activities designed for students who are unable to attend freshman-specific Incept. The Combination format will accommodate both freshmen and transfer students and provide a basic orientation to the University. Students are strongly encouraged to attend a freshman or transfer specific Incept over the Combination option. Check-in for the Combination conference is 7–7:55 a.m. in the Student Recreation Center (101 Piedmont Avenue). The conference will last until 5 p.m.
Note: New freshmen students entering in the summer and spring semesters will only have the freshmen/transfer Combination format to choose from.
